Dean's messages

Welcome Message from the Dean

Welcome to the LSU College of Agriculture! I am excited to serve the students, faculty and staff as the interim Dean and share with you the outstanding educational and co-curricular offerings we provide to our students.

The mission of the College of Agriculture is to provide innovative academic programs, create essential knowledge, advance collaborative research, and drive outreach to solve both local and global agricultural challenges. We accomplish this through undergraduate and graduate program offerings, research opportunities, and career training and placement via internships, participation in student organizations, and involvement in high-impact learning practices.

Our state-of-the-art degree programs align to well-paying and stable future-state careers in the agricultural and related industry sectors. We also prepare students for graduate study in traditional and professional programs ranging from master's and doctoral work to veterinary medicine.

Our nearly 2,000 undergraduate and graduate students learn from faculty who are among the most eminent in their fields. The faculty, by and large, conduct their research through the LSU AgCenter, and students have opportunities to work side-by-side with them in the process of discovery and innovation. Nearly half of our undergraduates gain valuable experience through our internship program, and high-profile industry leaders aggressively recruit our students into their companies due to the high-quality education we provide.

Our college community deeply values inclusion and equity, delivering opportunities for engagement with students from all walks of life to enrich their learning experience and broaden their appreciation for the diversity of the human condition. Our first-rate student services team advises students on the academic pathways best suited for them by identifying the intersection of their interests and aptitude. We are laser-focused on retaining our students and ensuring they complete their journey with us in a timely manner so they can give back to the communities and do what we prepare them to do: serve as leaders for the twenty-first century.

Please take time to explore our website, review our programs, and determine where you can find your academic home in the LSU College of Agriculture. We prepare students to be future leaders, and we welcome the opportunity to serve you!

Sincerely,

Matt Lee
Interim Vice President for Agriculture and Dean of the College of Agriculture
