Current research focus

  1. To analyze the plant pathogenic interaction between sugarcane and brown rust with the goal to identify additional resistance sources of resistance present in the Louisiana sugarcane plant material, improving the knowledge of this interaction and use it to control this disease.   
  2. To identified genomic regions, quantitative trait loci (QTLs), controlling smut resistance in sugarcane for future development of molecular markers for markers-assisted breeding.
