CURRENT RESEARCH
By utilizing genomic and bioinformatic tools, my research focus on molecular dissection and characterization of certain resistance traits against diseases, such bacterial panicle blight (BPB) and sheath blight (SB), that can threaten the rice production here in Louisiana due to climatic change specifically due increase in night time temperature. The major goals of the study are to determine and to characterize the quantitative traits (QTL) from a resistant rice variety that can be used for varietal development and to design molecular markers to expedite the breeding process of selecting resistant lines for bacterial panicle blight and sheath blight by marker assisted screening.
