Peer Mentors
Peer Mentor Applications Now Open
Peer Mentors are a select group of undergraduate students who work closely with the College of Agriculture administration to support first-year students in the Fall semester as they transition to their college careers. Peer Mentors are an integral part of the AGRI 1001: Introduction to Agriculture (first-year seminar). Under the supervision of an AGRI 1001 instructor, Peer Mentors will connect with first-year students through engaging classroom discussions, individualized goal-setting meetings, and important first-year transition and retention events throughout the fall semester.

- Mentor first-year students in the College of Agriculture.
- Engage in classroom discussions within small groups organized by faculty and staff.
- Assist in leading specialized course projects in the campus community.
- Participate in key first-year student transition and retention events throughout the fall semester.
- Assist with weekly First-year Seminar course at least one day a week.
- Monday or Wednesday: 10:30 – 11:50 a.m.; 11:30 am – 12:50 p.m.; 1:30 – 2:50 p.m.
- Tuesday or Thursday: 1:30 – 2:50 p.m.
- Enrolled in a major in the LSU College of Agriculture, have a 2.5 minimum GPA, and be committed to serving in the fall semester.
- Availability of up to an additional 4 hours a week for meetings, trainings, and planning sessions.
- Have a passion for helping other students develop skills for success in their college careers.
- January 6: Applications open for Fall 2023 Peer Mentors
- February 15: Peer Mentor Info Session at 5:00 p.m. in 150 Woodin Hall
- February 24: Applications are due by 4:30 p.m.
- February 27: Applicants invited to schedule a virtual interview
- March 2-3: Candidates will participate in a 15-20 minute virtual interview
- March 10: The 2023 Peer Mentor Team will be announced
- March (TBA): Peer Mentor Meet & Greet at 4:30 p.m.
- August 17-18: Peer Mentor Retreat
*Peer Mentors will also be asked to help with move-in weekend and the Welcome Week activities prior to classes starting in the fall 2023.
