The LSU Department of Economics is committed to excellence in teaching and research. Our goal is to provide students with analytic skills and a breadth of economic understanding that prepares them for careers in business, government, or for further study in economics, law, or public policy. Frequently, our faculty are honored with teaching awards, publish in prestigious journals, and provide analysis used by key policymakers. Several faculty serve as editors of professional journals.

Economics & Policy Research Group

The Economics & Policy Research Group conducts applied research, including economic impact studies, program evaluations, and economic forecasting. 

EPRG is a group of full-time faculty and staff doing externally funded research. Partners include state and federal government, as well as non-governmental organizations and industry associations.

LSU Energy Program 

The Energy Program prepares students for diverse and exciting careers in the energy industry. Housed in the Department of Economics, the Energy Program curriculum is designed to provide the broad skills and knowledge needed by the next generation of energy professionals. Students take classes that are specific to the energy sector, and have a wide range of extracurricular learning opportunities, including site visits, access to speakers in the industry, case competitions, energy conferences and expos, and industry-related internships.

Do high taxes cause superstars to work less? In a recent working paper titled "Taxes and the Labor Supply of the Stars" released by the National Bureau of Economic Research, LSU Department of Economics Associate Professor Dan Keniston and Assistant Professor Abigail Peralta study this question among a unique group of wealthy individuals: Hollywood movie stars.

Samuel Camacho, an LSU E. J. Ourso College of Business senior from Maracaibo, Venezuela, was one of 50 students nationwide to receive the PIMCO Future Leaders Scholarship. In addition to the $20,000 scholarship, Camacho recently joined other recipients at PIMCO's headquarters in Newport Beach, California.
