Whether you are studying abroad on a semester program or with one of our outstanding faculty-led programs, gaining exposure to the world and experiences in unfamiliar cultures can make an enormous difference in where you land after graduation.
Employers value study abroad and seek graduates who have gained international experiences such as study abroad, internship, research, and service-learning abroad during their college years—graduates who have experience living in another culture and are able to work better with people from diverse cultures. According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), the top skills that employers seek include the ability to work in a team, problem-solving, analytical/quantitative skills, verbal and written communication skills, initiative, leadership, technical skills, flexibility/adaptability, and a strong work ethic, ”(NACE 2021). Developing these skills while studying abroad helped alumni to land a job more quickly after graduation and gain higher acceptance into graduate school than students who did not study abroad. Study abroad alumni also earned more starting salaries than students who did not study abroad. Studying abroad will help to differentiate yourself in the marketplace.
