A Principal Investigator (PI) is the individual who:
Holds primary responsibility for the technical conduct of the project, and for all
administrative and budgetary management.
Is responsible for complying with all contractual obligations, including technical
and administrative requirements and restrictions.
PI, Department Chair, and Dean are collectively responsible for:
The conduct of research programs with respect to sponsor and University policies and
procedures
Charges incurred on projects which are later deemed unallowable due to sponsor restrictions
are the responsibility of the PI's department and/or college.
PI's are encouraged to seek assistance from SPA and OSP in the management of sponsored
projects.
