Student Stipends

It is the goal of the Program to fund every student by graduate assistantships or fellowships throughout the course of graduate study. Tuition is waived for graduate students on assistantships and some fellowships.

MS Program

M.S. student stipends are typically $17,000/year. Graduate student assistantships for Program students are typically:

Medical Physics Concentration

  • Teaching Assistantships- Year 1 (Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters)
  • Medical Assistantships- Year 2 (Fall and/or Spring Semesters)
    • o These assistantships are provided during the semester that students are receiving clinical training at Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center.
  • Research Assistantships- Year 2 (remainder) and Year 3 (until Program requirements completed)
    • Student typically funded by his or her faculty supervisor for the M.S. thesis research.

Health Physics Concentration

  • Teaching Assistantships- Year 1 (Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters)
  • Research Assistantships- Year 2 (until Program requirements completed)
    • Student typically funded by his or her faculty supervisor for the M.S. thesis research.
  •  Currently, we also offer 2-year educational fellowships funded by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission

Ph.D. Program

Ph.D. students are typically supported by a teaching assistantship during the first two years of graduate study; these stipends are typically $25,000 per calendar year, including graduate tuition waiver. Subsequent years are typically funded as a research assistant through the faculty advisor’s research grants and contracts. PhD students are encouraged to apply for fellowships from the National Science Foundation’s Graduate Research Fellowship program, the National Institutes of Health, the American Association of Physicists in Medicine, or other sources.
