The Haber Research group investigated the synthesis and characterization of Ag@Au CS nanoparticles using in situ SHG spectroscopy, extinction spectroscopy, and Mie theory simulations. The Cook group and collaborators investigated the formation mechanisms of EPFRs on ZnO, focusing on the role of electronegativity. EPFRs formed via ZnO reduction where the least electronegative organic substituent caused the highest degree of reduction and generated the highest amount of radical. The EPFRs formed demonstrated a prolonged lifetime of months, making them stable enough to impose adverse health effects.
The Kuroda group investigates the molecular origins of ion associations in lithium-based electrolytes used in Lithium-ion batteries. The study reveals that the ionic interactions are influenced by the solvent's ability to rearrange its electronic density upon coordination with the lithium-ion, providing a framework for designing safer and more efficient electrolytes.
