This unique Tales program will feature a special screening of the film that took away the 2023 Louisiana Film Prize's top honor for best film. The Candy Lady - written and directed by Monique Morton Derouselle and edited and co-produced by LSU Vet Med videographer Chris Jones - depicts Debra, a neighborhood candy lady whose quiet day goes awry when she awakens a magical typewriter bringing all of her short stories to life. Come watch a screening of this award-winning film and participate in a Q & A with its director, Monique Derouselle, and editor, Chris Jones.

Dr. Louis Leonpacher: The Flying Veterinarian of Lafayette

This special Tales program will feature a screening of the documentary film entitled Dr. Louis Leonpacher: The Flying Vet of Lafayette. The film uses photographs, videos, correspondence, documents, and personal interviews to tell the story of Louis "Lippi" Leonpacher, the German immigrant who became one of the earliest veterinarians in Acadiana and the first in Louisiana to use aircraft as a means to commute to his patients. After the screening, participate in a Q & A session with the creator/producer of the documentary and Leonpacher's grand-daughter, Leslie Leonpacher. The film screening will begin around 6 p.m. and last about 50 minutes. Afterward, Ms. Leonpacher will answer questions from the audience about her grandfather and the making of the documentary. Program ends at 7:30 p.m.

LSU Vet Med welcomes Dr. Matt Kaeberlein, Chief Science Officer at Optispan, Inc., Affiliate Professor of Oral Health Sciences at the University of Washington, and Co-Director of the Dog Aging Project. Dr. Kaeberlein will talk about his work with the Dog Aging Project, what he's learned thus far about aging in canines, and the project's plans for future research. Refreshments begin at 5:30 p.m. and the program goes from 5:45 to about 6:30 p.m.
